About BibeCheck

A short prayer and a Bible verse, for the days that feel heavy.

Every day, BibeCheck shares a free healing prayer with a Bible verse. It takes less than a minute to read. Pray it, or send it to someone you love.

Want a prayer just for one person? Tell us their name and what they are facing. We write it and email it to you.

How BibeCheck began

BibeCheck began with my own Bible reading. In 2020 I started reading one chapter a day, but I often found it hard to understand. So I built a small software tool to help me understand it better, and I shared some of what I learned on Facebook.

I tried different kinds of posts. When I posted Bible verses, many more people responded. I thought: maybe this is what people are looking for, a Bible verse that is easy to take in. So I made a new kind of post: a Bible verse, a matching prayer, and soft background music. That is BibeCheck today.

Who is behind it

Jeyner Gil Caga

Jeyner Gil CagaA Catholic husband and dad in Singapore. I still read one chapter of the Bible every day, and I read every prayer before it goes out.

My wife Germaine and I have served as wardens and hospitality ministers at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Singapore, since 2011: welcoming people at the door, showing them to their seats, and taking up the collection. In 2020, when churches in Singapore closed during the pandemic, there was no one to welcome.

While the churches were getting ready to open again, the plan was to use contact tracing, as the government required: a QR code on every seat, with each scan going into an Excel sheet. If someone got COVID, the seating list would show who sat near them. The rules also said people must not go from one church to another, so COVID would not spread between parishes. Excel could do this for one church, but doing it across all 32 churches would be challenging.

The QR code on the pew, planned for the reopening, that started it all.

I offered our priest to build a proper system, and he introduced me to the Archdiocese of Singapore. I built the Mass booking system in three weeks. Each Catholic signed up with one church and booked a place at each Mass, so every person could be traced and no one moved between churches. It brought people back to 32 churches, more than 250,000 faithful. Later, it was also used to sign up for Catholic200SG, which marks the 200th anniversary of the Catholic Church's presence in Singapore, and for the balloting and Mass registration to attend Pope Francis' Mass in 2024.

It taught me that a simple tool, made with care, can bring people back to God when something stands in the way.

At church, our job is to welcome people at the door and help them find a seat. BibeCheck is the same work, just online: welcoming whoever comes, and helping them find their way to God in prayer.

If one prayer helps one person feel that God is near, that is everything.
